Jim Backus as the Father: Jim Backus, known for his comedic roles (like Mr. Magoo), plays Jim Stark's ineffectual and emasculated father, a crucial representation of the generational conflict. Nicholas Ray's Direction: Nicholas Ray was known for his films dealing with social issues and alienation, and Rebel Without a Cause is considered one of his best.
