- James SaenzApril 12, 2026“you know what an older woman does for me?” “changes your diapers?” “touché.“ harry dean stanton portrays an interiority that roles like his aren’t typically given. his relationship with molly ringwald is the highlight of the film, and every scene they share is one i look forward to (iona is also the best part of the film she is my queen, both things can be true). i haven’t seen this in over a decade and duckie still hasn’t improved for me; john hughes has this tendency to write his humor or flirting for male characters to go past a certain point of entertainment into just full harassment and it happens too often for my taste. i used to be enamored with hughes’ writing as a teenager (which makes sense, given i was the demographic for this), but as i grow older i feel myself gravitating more to his films that are more adult-focused (uncle buck and planes, trains and automobiles still hit). p.s. gina gershon i don’t remember you being in this movie!!! hiiii ilysm~
