Pokémon: Detective Pikachu Ratings & Reviews

- PhineasJuly 11, 2025Honestly much better and more flushed out than I was expecting. Ryan Reynolds continues to deliver. The human cast outside of Bill Nighy were a little annoying though.
- HarleyJuly 4, 2025That human with ditto eyes terrifies me. What made them think that was a good idea to put in a children's movie
- Manuel FrangisMarch 25, 2025I just watched Pokémon: Detective Pikachu again and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. This movie completely surprised me when I first saw it and honestly it still holds up as one of the best video game movies ever made. It is fun, exciting, and has so much heart. Whether you are a longtime Pokémon fan or just looking for a cool adventure movie, this one delivers. Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu is what makes the movie work so well. It sounds weird at first, hearing his voice coming out of a little yellow electric mouse, but somehow it totally works. He brings so much humor and personality to Pikachu and makes the character feel real. His delivery is perfect and the balance of funny, sarcastic, and emotional moments makes you really care about him. Justice Smith does a great job as the lead character, Tim Goodman. You believe his journey and he plays well off the wild energy of Pikachu. Their friendship is the heart of the story and watching it grow over the course of the movie is one of the best parts. He brings a more grounded feel to all the craziness going on around him. The Pokémon world in this movie looks amazing. Ryme City feels like a place where humans and Pokémon actually live side by side. The way all the Pokémon are designed is awesome. They look realistic but still stay true to their original designs. You can tell a lot of love went into how each one was brought to life. Whether it is Charizard, Bulbasaur, Snorlax, or Psyduck, every Pokémon feels like it belongs in this world. The plot is solid and keeps things moving. It is a mystery story at its core, and the detective angle gives it a fun twist on the usual Pokémon formula. There are a lot of twists and turns, and even though it is made for a younger audience, the story has enough depth to keep older viewers interested too. The action scenes are great. There are cool battles, chase scenes, and high energy moments that feel like they came straight out of the games or the anime. But what really stands out is how the action is mixed with character moments and humor. It never feels too dark or too silly. It finds that perfect middle ground. The visual effects are really impressive. Seeing Pokémon in live action could have easily looked strange or fake, but the effects team nailed it. Everything from the fur on Pikachu to the glow of Pokémon powers looks polished and believable. The pacing is strong. There are no boring parts and the movie keeps the energy up the whole time. Whether it is solving the mystery, meeting new Pokémon, or getting into some wild situation, it always has something fun going on. I give it 5 out of 5 stars because it does everything right. It respects the source material, it tells a fun and emotional story, and it looks amazing. It is the kind of movie you can watch again and again and still find something new to enjoy. Overall Pokémon: Detective Pikachu is a fun, clever, and heartwarming movie that brings the world of Pokémon to life in the best way possible. It has laughs, action, mystery, and characters you actually care about. I loved every second of it and I hope they make more movies like this in the future.
- Lucas MagretaJuly 3, 2025this was a good pokemon movie. a live action pokemon movie. I didn't think it would be this good. Ryan Reynolds though. we have him. and justice Smith. the cast has like 2 people in great other movies. but this movie isn't as good as those others like Deadpool and Jurassic world fallen kingdome and dominion
- DdoughnutMay 21, 2025Some of these Pokemon designs look like they came from a horror movie
- Rowan KrzysiakFebruary 12, 2025Fair enough it's better than most attempts in this ilk but don't confuse that with it actually being particularly good. If you don't have an understanding of Pokèmon either I have no idea what this is to you.
