In 18th century Maramureș, Romanian officer Grigore Pintea returns home to devastating news: his parents slain and villagers oppressed by Bartolok Graff. Fuelled by vengeance, he abandons the army, uniting peasants to reclaim their freedom and seize two fortresses.
