Where to Watch Peter Hujar's Day
- Kevin WardDecember 18, 2025Ben Whishaw is completely entrancing to watch. But I was not really familiar with much of the 1970’s New York art scene that’s being discussed and named dropped; nor did I connect with that material. Even still it’s kind of impressive how engaged I was with it even purely as an acting showcase for Whishaw (and to a lesser extent Hall). Not that Hall is bad. She is great as well, she just has significantly less dialogue and is more or less just prompting and reacting to Whishaw. Knowing that it’s a recreation based on a transcript of an interview between Rosenkrantz and Hujar, I found myself focusing in on the details that likely weren’t on the page, examining how each actor performs. Eating a bowl of pistachios, smoking in the roof, relaxing on the couch. Just kind of fascinating to examine each choice made in the scene.
