It’s just bad. Not even in that charming “so-bad-it’s-good” way some ’80s movies manage, but flat-out terrible. The writing is painfully simple, and Carrey’s character is outshined by his own sidekicks, who bring the only real laughs. There isn’t much else to praise, though the pacing is surprisingly solid. It would take another nine years before we’d see Carrey truly in his element.
