Siostra ofiary, Edie (Eva Marie Saint), prosi go o pomoc w wykryciu winnych zbrodni. Świat bohatera zaczyna się chwiać. Do ostatecznej decyzji zerwania z kliką i złożenia zeznań przed Portową Komisją Dochodzeniową skłania go także ojciec Barry, katolicki ksiądz. Terry decyduje się stawić czoło szefowi Związku Dokerów...

"I didn't say I didn't love you! I said stay away from me!" - Edie Marlon Brando in that plaid jacket and those corduroy pants is so hot right now.

Good story about standing up to wrongdoers and the meaning of bravery. Really great acting all around.

There is a reason Brando is known as the greatest actor of all time; it is perhaps these tiny things that changed cinema acting forever. To good to be true.

Sometimes all aspects if a film production come together so perfectly, that it seems effortless—Elia Kazan’s direction, Kaufman’s cinematography, Leonard Bernstein’s score and winning performances from Marlon Brando and Eva Marie Saint.  I’m only familiar with Brando’s later filmography, so this was a nice intro into seeing his early work that made him a star. A compelling crime drama following widespread corruption amongst the longshoremen’s unions on the waterfronts of New Jersey. Though it certainly had echoes of the McCarthyism of the era, more than anything it’s a timeless tale of standing up for what is right.

A demi-masterpiece. A bit melodramic. Maybe for my Internet-era sensibilities, this story felt more like a stage play on celluloid. The big story here is basic, well-crafted, and well-executed. And there are some really great acting performances throughout, from Eve Marie Saint, Karl Malden and, of course the legendary Marlon Brando... "I coulda been somebody, I coulda been a contender..." These older b/w films definitely leaned in more on the actors' talents, and the soundtracks... today (2025) the narrative gaps seems to be filled more by special f/x. Nevertheless, this film is worth studying, and appreciating.
