Nothing to Lose Ratings & Reviews
- 匚卂尺ㄥFebruary 7, 2025Funny film, largely based on a man who thinks his wife is cheating on him.....and has nothing to lose, with comical events.
- Jacob O’NealJune 1, 2025Tim Robbins, Martin Lawrence, Kelly Preston, Rebecca Gayheart, Michael McKean, Giancarlo Esposito and John C. McGinley star in the only movie by Steve Odekirk I will ever admit to liking. He’s the guy behind the Thumb Wars series and Kung Pow: Enter The Fist. The movie is about Nick. He’s happily married and has a good job. One day he comes home and sees his wife in bed with his boss. He turns and leaves without them ever knowing he was there. Shortly after, Terrance (or T, as he prefers to be called) jumps in his car and attempts to rob him. With nothing to lose, Nick snaps. This sets them off on a road trip of misadventures including robbery, mistaken identity, feet literally catching fire and much more. The movie premise is your typical cookie cutter buddy comedy. Whether a movie like this works or not hinges 75% chemistry between the leads and 25% comedic situations that play up that chemistry and humor. This has that. Nick and T are an unlikely pair that find they have far more in common than they could have ever imagined. The way they play that up as they start to work together is comedy gold. There’s a lot to enjoy in this little movie. It’s a shame Odekirk didn’t do more like this instead of where he ended up. As for the rest of the cast, Esposito and McGinley are a blast as two bottom of the barrel criminals on the trail of our heroes. It’s a shame McKean and Preston didn’t have more to do in the film. I feel like they could have added a lot to it. What moments they had were solid. Rebecca Gayheart was essentially there to look hot and ditzy as a possible distraction for Nick. She played it well. This came out at the same time as Scream 2 and Urban Legend. She was really trying at the time to show range and stick around. Shame it didn’t really work out for her. She had great eyes. Best moment of the film - “You have a spider on your face”. If you’ve seen it you know. If you haven’t, you’re gonna love that whole bit.
