- ReubenJanuary 31, 2026The core joke of the movie is the 'incompetent dad' trope, found in numerous other Hollywood productions. I think I laughed once, but ultimately had to turn it off about 3/4 or 4/5 through, as watching someone be this incompetent was just frustrating. I'm also not sure exactly who this movie is for, as it seems marketed toward families but the movie itself has many themes that're not safe for families. I think this was another one of those movies that were made to pollute families and society at large by normalising certain degenerate themes and topics. Typical Hollyweird.

It is a mixture of many different things that come together and make "National Lampoon's Vacation" work out so nicely, such as the directing by Harold Ramis, the acting by the entire cast, and the entire storyline of course.
