- Kevin WardJuly 2, 2025Bobbi Salvör Menuez and Amandla Stenberg have excellent chemistry. Menuez plays Heather, who works at the local ice rink and is striving to make the (essentially boys) hockey team. Stenberg, plays Jonny, a figure skater that practices at Heather’s rink. Their connection is immediate, and their relationship soon begins to steam up the screen despite the cold icy backdrop of winter. While Heather’s repressed desires are boiling to the surface, so too is another aspect of her identity. My Animal is a proficient coming of age queer horror, with a pulsing synth score and red saturated cinematography. It’s much more character drama than it is a genre horror film. I definitely enjoyed it.
