Loved watching the haughty English gentleman trying to maintain his disconnect in the face of sadism. To be thoroughly enjoyed, the cinematography of this film needs a big screen.

Trevor Howard and Marlon Brando are excellent. The film is a successful remake of the 30’s classic of the same name which starred the truly evil and unpleasant Charles Laughton. It is succeeded by a second remake starring Mel Gibson called simply “The Bounty”. The latter is poor by comparison

I certainly can't complain about the look of this movie. This high-quality big-budget epic production was shot in wide-screen format in and near Tahiti, a beautiful corner of the world. It really takes you there and that is great. The acting and the script, however, are a little less great. Marlon Brando's curious take on Fletcher Christian as somewhat of a foppish poseur takes a little getting used to. However, he does portray him as a good man, thus endearing his character to the audience. The main flaw of this movie is baked into the story itself. The historical events don't lend themselves well to a Hollywood script. This particular version plays loose with the facts and still falls short of a satisfying conclusion. American audiences love to see someone "win", but this just isn't that kind of story. Nevertheless, the classic and historic tale of the mutiny aboard the Bounty does have a certain intrinsic allure that makes it's dramatization watchable.
