- CallumDecember 10, 2025⭐⭐½ – Messy – A Chaotic Wander Through Modern Dating (Without the Laughs It Thinks It Has) Messy isn’t the worst thing you’ll watch this year, but it’s also not going to make anyone’s “must-see” list. It sits awkwardly between genres — part teen sex-comedy without the actual comedy, part Sex and the City imitator without the romance, drama, or sharp writing that made that show iconic. What you’re left with is a mildly entertaining, mildly awkward, mildly everything story that somehow still manages to be… watchable. The cast is interesting in that “I know you from somewhere” way — the sort of faces you recognise from a handful of other projects but can’t quite place until the credits jog your memory. No one gives a standout performance, but no one sinks the ship either. It just drifts along. The plot is mostly a string of one-night stands and half-hearted self-discovery moments as the lead tries to figure out her life, her desires, and her direction — without ever really landing on any of them. The only time the show genuinely jolts awake is during her drug-fuelled threesome misadventure, which she later clarifies was really “more like two twosomes” because, frankly, half the participants couldn’t stay engaged. It’s ridiculous, but at least it’s the kind of ridiculous that gets your attention. There’s no real drama, no genuine emotional stakes, and not a lot of laughs. But it moves along just quickly enough that you never feel the urge to switch it off. Perfectly watchable, instantly forgettable. 🍸 Pairing: A lukewarm vodka soda — simple, a bit bland, goes down easy, and leaves no lasting impression whatsoever.
