Materialists Ratings & Reviews
- zanomo1d agoRated LE: Not suitable for audience with inadequate Life Experience.
- JoelJune 12, 2025Maybe a career best performance for Chris Evans, but man this screen play thinks it’s so much smarter than it is. A few moments literally made me roll my eyes. There’s good moments in here. Pedro’s charming as ever, the main score that plays throughout this is beautiful, and it feels so close to being something special. Ultimately it ends up being closer to the notebook (which I hate) than being anything really great.
- Mert Ayanoglu1d agoIt is a genuine criticism of modern-day relationships. Makes you think about why you want to get married.
- WAL Plex Server1d agoPredictable RomCom with some phony psychobabble added to make it more relevant. I’d skip it.
- thomasrogers753June 29, 2025Came for Pedro Pascal Stayed for Chris Evans
- surenth6July 24, 2025Crappy movie. Dont waste time watching it. I gave it more than 1 star because of the cast but slow and boring.

- vangh13d agoI'm thankful every day that I met someone who I genuinely love and that genuinely loves me and that we found each other JUST before app based dating became a thing and made coupling the same as drafting for fantasy football. After watching this, I'm extra thankful today.
- CCRunner524July 24, 2025I watched this thinking it was a romantic comedy. It’s more of a romantic drama. It was slow and anti-climactic. Dakota Johnson was very monotone and uninteresting.
- NJuly 23, 2025Really unsubstantial and underwhelming honestly… watching her is like watching a toddlers snot strand coming down to touch the carpet
- Austin BurkeJune 30, 2025This movie delivers a strong trio of performances, as Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, & Pedro Pascal shine in this semi-fresh take on modern love, unveiling how money & status can shape our hearts. Celine Song’s direction is gorgeous, with sharp moments and a small splash of humor in the beginning. The ending ultimately stumbles, and the script doesn’t fully embrace its ideas, but the cast/director duo is enough to deliver a solid experience.
- Alex1d agoThis movie captures the harsh reality of dating in today’s world—where love is buried beneath expectations, materialism, and financial demands. It reminds us that love isn't about money or superficial checklists, which is why so many people stay single well into their 40s. True love is sacrifice. It’s compromise, understanding, and choosing someone for who they are—not what they can give you. I found myself biting my lip in frustration hearing some of the “requirements” these women had—viewing men as cash cows rather than partners. Thankfully, the main character eventually realizes that none of those things matter, though I wish the film delivered that message with a bit more clarity. Still, it gets the point across: modern relationships are suffering because we’ve lost sight of what love really is. If you're dating—or struggling to understand your partner—I recommend watching this with them. Maybe it’ll help both of you reset those absurd expectations and remember what love should be about.
- Rob Logan | The Geek Generation5d agoIn the hands of another cast, this could have been hard to sit through, but Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal keep it interesting enough. However, Materialists doesn't have much to say that's particularly new, and it certainly takes it time saying it.
- Rick Masters4d agoIve noticed this is praised for its authenticity and how it explores love, connection and intimacy but I found it all so robotic. No one talks like this! These aren’t real conversations… love doesn’t work in any of these ways. Its not exactly helped by Dakota Johnson’s stiff, mechanised acting throughout the entire thing. It was interesting for a while but after some consideration I swiped left… it’s just not perfect enough for my liking.
- pl571685d agoNot much to like though not dis-likable. Pedro Pascal is out of his element as a romantic lead, Dakota Johnson is ok but can't help but wonder if a better romantic lead could have made us care about her character. Chris Evans has the most dimension and plays it ok, but again, we don't care much. Dialogue is quite poor, story is a mess and while we understand this is a romantic drama (certainly NOT a rom-com), there should be SOME sense of realism, or realistic characters...
