Materialists Ratings & Reviews
- Timewalk2d agoSo boring. No comedy. No acting. More humor in the Bible.

- RikondaOctober 26, 2025Checkovs legs
- Michael St. DenisOctober 18, 2025Dakota Johnson is got to be one of the worst actresses I've ever seen. Chris Evans in this movie is not too much better. Pedro Pascal does a good job and is about one of the only redeeming qualities. The plot is awful. The storyline is awful and do you expect to see conflict between the Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal characters, but there is none. It is just a story about someone whose life is awful and can't make decisions.
- JoelJune 12, 2025Maybe a career best performance for Chris Evans, but man this screen play thinks it’s so much smarter than it is. A few moments literally made me roll my eyes. There’s good moments in here. Pedro’s charming as ever, the main score that plays throughout this is beautiful, and it feels so close to being something special. Ultimately it ends up being closer to the notebook (which I hate) than being anything really great.
- Nishant AroraOctober 8, 2025From the acclaimed director of Past Lives, The Materialists is a sharp, witty, and refreshingly mature romantic comedy. It deconstructs the conventional love triangle by focusing on the uncomfortable realities of money, ambition, and modern dating, while still delivering an emotionally rich and satisfying cinematic experience. The Good Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans all deliver compelling and nuanced performances, creating a love triangle that feels complex and human. The screenplay is taut and clever, offering a brutally honest look at how our desires are shaped by financial and social anxieties. The cinematography is stunning, capturing a "quiet luxury" aesthetic that is both aspirational and subtle. The film wisely avoids standard rom-com clichés, opting for a more grounded and thoughtful approach to romance. The Bad Despite its compelling premise, the film's narrative can feel anticlimactic as it resolves its central conflict, making the final act feel a little less dramatic than it could be. Some of the dialogue, while sharp, can at times feel a bit morose. The supporting characters, particularly those of the clients, are mostly caricatures meant to fuel the plot rather than fully developed individuals. The minimalist narrative style and sparse dialogue may not appeal to viewers looking for a more traditional, lighthearted rom-com. Materialists is a thoughtful, cerebral, and highly watchable film that solidifies Celine Song's reputation as a masterful observer of relationships.
- thomasrogers753June 29, 2025Came for Pedro Pascal Stayed for Chris Evans
- Corbin BishopOctober 6, 2025Pretty simple, but I really liked it! And it was absolutley gorgeous. It was cool to see a romance like this again but have Celine Song's magical touch in it. You could definitely feel it. A lot slower, which I enjoyed. It was just what I needed.
- Aaron WestOctober 5, 2025Not good. Ends exactly how you think it will end. So many bad choices in the script. Dakota Johnson doing her usual deadpan line delivery.
- AsgardSeptember 15, 2025Wonderful movie. Really good attention to detail. (Black American spirits, calendar reminder to stay grounded about what is important: love, the big ears of the interviewees, and l’temps song during her hookup). Does a good job of having both characters realize what is important. It definitely gave me perspective on what truly is important in relationships: love. I especially loved how the characters frequently vocalized they were doing math.
- surenth6July 24, 2025Crappy movie. Dont waste time watching it. I gave it more than 1 star because of the cast but slow and boring.
- repaSeptember 14, 2025Great romantic movie with real life though provoking script
- brandnizzleSeptember 7, 2025"It’s really hard for me to feel like this is not about the legs” absolutely should have been a Tim Robinson sketch. This movie, the writing more than anything, is mind-numbing. A painful experience.
- AndreiTamasJuly 26, 2025bruh cmon
- Deep SanduneSeptember 6, 2025Interesting, excessive take on US (or Manhattan) materialism through a distinctly different lens. Worth a watch.
