While the individual songs were pleasant, they felt more like a compilation from the 1980s. Additionally, there was a significant amount of background music during dialogue that lacked contextual relevance. Ultimately, the film's score was a notable weakness, appearing somewhat disorganized and unrestrained. The plot offers an intriguing fusion of elements from thrillers like "Catch Me If You Can" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", transforming a simple table sport into a thrilling and obsessive crime thriller set in the vibrant and challenging streets of New York. Timothée Chalamet shines as Marty Mauser, delivering a performance that many consider the most daring of his career. His ability to portray a character who is simultaneously narcissistic and charismatic is remarkable. Despite Marty's moral failings, Chalamet's depth and magnetism manage to win the audience's empathy, making us root for him even when his actions are questionable. The film's aspects also deserve highlighting. The choice to shoot on 35mm film gives the work a rich visual aesthetic, while the production design authentically revives 1950s New York.
