- Paul16 dicembre 2025Tim Roth’s debut as Trevor is absolutely feral, one of the most convincing portrayals of an intelligent, nihilistic youth Britain’s ever put on screen. The film tracks a racist, violent skinhead being “given chances” by the system, and shows how useless those chances are when the underlying society is broken: dead-end education, pointless schemes, box-ticking social workers and a state that ultimately falls back on a truncheon. Immigration runs through it as a brutal subtext: Trevor kicks down at a Pakistani shopkeeper instead of up at the politicians and economic forces that created his world, which feels uncomfortably close to today’s discourse. Watching it now, with mass immigration higher, institutions hollowed out by austerity, and fewer real opportunities for young people, you realise not much has improved, it’s just been wrapped in softer language. Raw, ugly and painfully relevant. Still one of the most honest films about late 20th‑century Britain, and depressingly, early 21st‑century Britain too.
