- flavo43December 14, 2025Lou is a refreshing reminder that action heroes don’t need to fit a traditional mold. Allison Janney delivers a commanding and surprisingly physical performance as a former CIA operative living off the grid, quietly watching over her daughter-in-law and granddaughter. Her presence alone carries much of the film, blending hard-edged toughness with restrained emotion and a believable sense of lived-in experience. The action sequences are well executed and grounded, favoring brutality and efficiency over flashy spectacle, which suits both the character and the film’s tone. Janney’s Lou feels capable without being invincible, making her confrontations tense and engaging. However, the story itself could have benefited from more development. The central conflict unfolds too quickly, and the antagonist never feels as threatening as the setup promises. A deeper exploration of Lou’s past and a stronger roster of adversaries might have elevated the stakes. Still, Lou succeeds as a compact, character-driven thriller, anchored by a standout performance that proves Allison Janney can anchor an action film with confidence and credibility.
