Every time I look at Chuck Norris here, I keep thinking of Walker, and that’s part of the problem. McQuade is clearly not Walker Texas Ranger yet. He’s a drunk, a loner, a messy bachelor, and more of a brute-force bull in a china shop than a polished hero, which honestly makes him more interesting on paper than in execution. The movie is often described as a kind of neo-Western built around Norris’s screen persona, and you can definitely feel that soft prototype energy. But let’s be honest: everyone is really here to see Norris and David Carradine throw down, and the movie takes too long getting there. Carradine mostly feels like he wandered over from Kung Fu and decided to play Kane with a criminal payroll. The final fight should have been the big payoff, and instead it’s just okay. Even though Norris and Carradine reportedly did the fight themselves and spent days shooting it, the scene still doesn’t land with the impact it should have. The rest of the movie has that slightly more violent made-for-TV vibe, with acting that’s about what you’d expect from an early-80s karate flick and a lot of noise standing in for excitement. Some critics liked its slam-bang action and Western flavor, but others thought the violence got numbing, which feels closer to the truth for me. As karate movies go, this is below average. There are plenty better ones out there.

Chuck hasn't died, he merely got bored of this world and lifted himself to a higher level of existence. This movie is pure guilty 80's pleasure. Don't expect a literary masterpiece. Just expect action, Chuck doing roundhouse kicks and being a total bad-ass while hunting down David Carradine, and you will have a very enjoyable movie night.

Rough, a little messy, but in a way that actually adds to the charm. It’s got that old-school toughness where everything feels stripped down and raw, and somehow that makes it more fun to watch. Not everything lands perfectly, but it doesn’t really try to be polished anyway. Chuck Norris just feels completely locked in here. This is easily him at his most iconic, even when things get a bit uneven. It’s the kind of movie you remember more for the vibe than anything else—and that’s enough. R.I.P. Chuck Norris

For my money this is the best Chuck movie. Granted I havnt even seen probably half of his movies, but as a kid and because my dad liked this one the best, it was my fav too. I remember thinking the action was so violent and hardcore, by todays PG standards it is, its even kinda hard for pg13 which didnt exist when this was made… but seeing it now, its pretty dang cartoony in the violence and often bloodless gunshots. Chuck acts with the skill of a stick a lot, but there are a few moments he shines. The action  is pretty great and has a wide variety, its never super convincing but still impressive much of the time. Chuck is a darn good badass in this one. He kinda was always the lesser of the big 80s action stars but I always liked his full on movies. This isnt a 4 star movie, more like a 3, but nostalgia dictates I must give it a 4. Rest in peace Chuck.
