LA Originals Ratings & Reviews

Everything outside of the hip hop game wasn’t as strong. This documentary is interesting but felt that it never built to anything. Seems like a lot of stuff left unexplored and left out. Like seeing all the old concert footage though!
L.A. Weekly
Lina Lecaro
Beyond the lowrider and street art scenes, it is the images of the barrio and gang hangs in L.A. that resonate and provide a reflection of real life in LA Originals.
Common Sense Media
Brian Costello
Excellent hip-hop culture docu has swearing, drug use.
Decider
John Serba
LA Originals serves as an introduction to the artists who influenced a large swath of popular culture for a decade or two.
Remezcla
Manuel Betancourt
Giving a firsthand account of how that rose bloomed out of the concrete, Oriol's crackling (if oftentimes meandering) documentary feels deeply personal, a snapshot of a subculture that's since gone mainstream.
But Why Tho? A Geek Community
Kate Sánchez
There is a power in LA Originals that resonates through the film. For hip hop fans and beyond, LA Originals is a much watch.
Variety
Peter Debruge
A feature-length sizzle reel in service of its makers' still semi-underground reputation.
New York Times
Ben Kenigsberg
Although the film unfolds from an insider's perspective (with an irritating tendency to drop one name after another), it is also a good introduction to the two artists.
