Man what a beautiful movie! Glad I waited 8 years to see this because I got to do it with my partner. In the romance genre, it is very common to repeat cliches which comes off as cheap, but this movie manages to shine in it’s simplicity, the earnestness with which the romantic elements are handled hit you hard. The set pieces are gorgeous, the dance choreography is so sublime, the musical lyrics are fun, inventive and heartwarming, the acting is great and the pacing is perfect. I bawled my eyes out at that ending sequence, so beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. It’s so difficult when two people have big dreams and the timing of their opportunities and achievements can rip them apart. There’s no easy answer when deciding to chase love or a passionate career. Yes a career will ultimately give you the power to be self-reliant and stable, and you can always find love again, but a part of you will always grieve the love that couldn’t be and wonder what it could’ve blossomed into in a different universe if circumstances aligned the right way. This movie holds a special place in my heart now and that one piano piece is never leaving my head.

Ryan Gosling is no longer “literally me,” because I wouldn’t shoulder-check Emma Stone while she was actively walking up to me like a retard. If I saw this in theaters, I’d probably be the most annoying person on the planet once I got out. It was a decent movie, but Moonlight definitely deserved to win Best Picture over this (even though the only scene I remember from that movie is when the gay kid goes back to school and hits the bully over the head with a chair—it was hilarious). Great depiction of how shitty the film industry is, though. Rebel Without a Cause is one of my favorite ’50s movies. If I invited a girl to see it and she stood me up, I’d probably blow my brains out then and there. I hate waking up in the morning. It’s simply not fair. One complaint I have about this movie is: how do they expect me to pay attention when Emma Stone is on the screen? If you’ve read my Eddington review or any other Emma Stone movie review on my account, you’ll understand what I’m saying—especially the stuff about her hurting me in an Arby’s parking lot by forcing me to eat Arby’s (which is a fate worse than death), among other painful, shameful things. Out of all the movie lots I’ve been to, I have to say the Warner lot sucks compared to Universal and Paramount. But the way things are heading, Paramount won’t even exist in the next five years.

A total chick flick. Your wife will love. Perhaps also good for a Netflix and chill… idk

It’s got that old-school Hollywood charm with a modern twist, and it’s just bursting with style. I really appreciated how the film balances the fun, dreamy musical numbers with the emotional highs and lows. It’s not just a fluffy romance—there’s real depth in the way it explores love, ambition, and the sacrifices we make for our dreams.

A tedious Hollywood self-suck spectacle, painfully lacking in self-awareness, whose barebones plot is excessively padded with corny musical numbers. One moment it's sending up classic film and jazz culture; the next, it's lashing out at the hollow gilt of L.A.'s trendy socialites. It worships the myth of the striver - the unknown genius talent just waiting to be discovered, the down-on-their-luck everyperson whose pluck and passion wins them success in the end - and attempts to set it against the foil of passionless business-minded people who can't appreciate their dream. One of the final musical sequences literally says that the world needs the strivers to teach the rest of the world how to dream. If you're a die-hard Hollywood sicko, this movie probably goes extremely hard. Personally, I found it pretty annoying.
