What an absolutely terrible movie. I don't turn off movies very often, but there's no point to this one. Acting it terrible, casting is terrible, zero plot, and what's with the cartoon bs?

I'm in the camp of believing both Kill Bill films to be one entire story aka "The Whole Bloody Affair," but the Weinstein Company decided to split them into two and it was actually a blessing in disguise. "Kill Bill Vol. 1" is a story more influenced by Eastern martial arts films as we see Quentin Tarantino's love for Hong Kong and Japanese cinema oozing on the screen, also combining elements of the spaghetti western and wrapping it into a classic revenge tale. Following The Bride, we see her go on an ultimate quest for vengeance after she's left for dead on her wedding day and watch her hunt down members of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad one by one and it's executed in all its bloody glory. Not only are the homages to 1970s martial arts films on full display, but even homages to "Lady Snowblood" and Bruce Lee's "Game of Death" are highlighted with The Bride wearing the iconic yellow body suit in the Crazy 88 sequence. I really wish Uma Thurman had played in more stuff during the prime of her career because films like "Pulp Fiction" and these films showed her talent as an actress and she is synonymous with this character. Being one born from her and QT as she was inspired by the Pam Grier character from "Coffy," she is a truly lethal female assassin who is also a deeply tortured woman who not only loses her baby but is attacked by her alleged groom in Bill which makes her someone very easy to get behind. While legendary stunt woman Zoe Bell is behind a lot of the action scenes as Uma's body double, with her being the one who actually cut the baseball in half with the sword, Thurman shows her action prowess in every scene she fights Copperhead and even the finale against O-Ren Ishii that is one of my favorite final battles ever. Robert Richardson really kills it with his cinematography that feels extremely cinematic and makes the colors pop like something out of a comic book or manga, while RZA and Robert Rodriguez provide some amazing music for the film that feels proper for the tone. I love that characters such as Vivica A. Fox's Copperhead aka Vernita Green and Lucy Liu's O-Ren aren't just one dimensional people and actually have backstories that humanize them especially O-Ren who on an awesome anime flashback sequence saw her entire family get murdered in front of her. It doesn't justify her murderous ways later on, but it does highlight the way that revenge can have a domino effect and when the killing happens in this film the bloodshed is as extreme as only Tarantino knows how to do it. This is one of his films that I have rewatched the most alongside "Reservoir Dogs" and "Death Proof."

"revenge is never a straight line. it's a forest, and like a forest, it's easy to lose your way... to get lost... to forget where you came in." absolutely loved this a second time and now it's time to rewatch the second one

Tarantino at his peak trying to create new genre of film that didnt quite take off. A mix of Japanese anime style feature film with a touch of old school Sergio Leone spaghetti western style. You can tell he made this movie for himself not for hollywood. Great movie love the 90s tarantino movies.
