Toshio, you little rascal with toxoplasmosis, you’ve done it again! Ju-On: The Grudge finally feels like a proper film rather than just a loose collection of scenes tied together by the idea of a curse. The mythology of the haunting begins to take the shape of something resembling a coherent story, and the narrative is noticeably more structured than in its predecessor. There’s also a clear improvement in the camerawork, acting, and overall tension-building; the film guides the viewer more confidently and with a stronger sense of purpose. The problem is that the horror scenes themselves still seem more interested in expanding the curse’s mythology than in genuinely stirring emotions. The jump scares clearly rely on practical effects and the actors’ makeup, but they lack dynamism, often leaving a rather underwhelming impression. Perhaps the most distinctive addition is the eerie sounds made by the wraths - an element that has become a defining trademark of the series. Even so, the film remains a competent scare machine, and the mythological aura surrounding the curse can still draw the viewer in, despite more than two decades passing since the release.

This one is going almost entire off of "vibes", but damn the vibes are scary. The story is told in a non-linear fashion, which may be off-putting for some, but I think it serves in the film's favor ultimately. Again, the important thing here is just how unnerving many of the visuals and scenes are.

Not scary at all, acting is horrible. Story confusing. Can feel it is an old movie
