1939 - The wedding anniversary of music teacher Hannes Röwekamp is said to be a festive day. On the estate of the Lord von Tschirnewitz, the father of the bride, is celebrated as a horse races through the village dragging a dead servant: it is the beginning of World War II. Life changes from that moment. During the war, Hannes, now Oberleutnant, is accompanied by his driver Ernst Wiederau, a communist. Despite different origins, they get to know and appreciate each other. They deny war by going to captivity. Both men see each other again after the war. Hannes gives concerts as a pianist, engages as a college teacher for his students, and finds a new happiness after the death of his wife. The friendship with seriousness remains; it is the two men who grow together, help each other, and stand close in the storm of times.
