I'm Still Here Ratings & Reviews
- Megan Cruz3 March 2025Fernanda Torres gives a monumental performance here in an incredibly timely and important story. What a picture.
- dyk6322 August 2025Thought-provoking and well-shot, but had made its point by halfway and seemed to lose steam after that.
- Kevin Ward1 July 2025Absolutely loved this. Fernanda Torres is incredible in the portrait of a woman powerfully holding her family together in the wake of her husband’s disappearance at the hands of the Brazilian military dictatorship. Shifting course, and persevering in order to provide for her family, giving them a life filled with joy, when underneath it all there’s still a deep yearning for some kind of acknowledgement as to the wrongs that have been committed. Fernanda Montenegro was 🤌🏼. Incredibly moving film. Highly recommend.
- Jefferson Bittencourt17 March 2025Nice cinematography. Not a quite inventing in terms of direction... but the cast had a good performance. Every one is talking about Fernanda but Selton, for me, has a better subtle work.
- cultfilmliker12 March 2025Love the combination of visual styles. Displays the span of the pain that traumatized a family forever. Phenomenal performances all around. Somber and poignant.
- The Tick16 November 2025Great movie. So good, in fact, that the Portuguese dialogue and English subtitles didn’t matter one bit. The storytelling was that strong. Every scene hit with emotion you could feel what the characters were going through without needing to understand every word. That’s rare. Beautifully acted, beautifully told. Simple, powerful, and quietly unforgettable.
- Ry17 August 2025A captivating emotional story about a family that gets wrapped up in the cruelty of the Brazilian military dictatorship. The cast is great overall, but is anchored by an amazing lead performance delivered by Fernanda Torres.
- Will6 June 2025A touching movie that shows a wonderful and strong mother of a lovely family, very recommended, a movie that shows also the results of a dictator’s government.
- Rowan Krzysiak20 March 2025Despite the validity of the cause or life of the lady it was highlighting, I found the whole thing generally tedious and unsophisticated.
- Jason Layton12 March 2025depressing but good
- rg940011 March 2025I'm Still Here is a movie that builds in the background, hitting me without me even realizing how emotionally invested I had become. To be honest, I found the first 30 minutes of the movie pretty slow and dry. The focus on the idylic life of the Paiva family establishes the cost of what is to come, expertly juxtaposed against the brutality of the government in the shadows and its impact on their future. Home videos, group photos, and family dinners act as motifs, recontextualizing loss throughout. That slow shattering makes up the core of this movie, centered on a tour de force performance from Fernanda Torres that manages to capture the emotional weight building within Eunice with finesse, equally showcasing her strength and her vulnerability. In a lot of ways, it's a very well-made movie. However, even though it focuses on completely different people and a completely different country, the recent FX TV show Say Nothing does cover a similar topic, and I just found it stronger and more compelling. Without that comparison though, I'm Still Here is a great movie and an excellent Oscar nominee.
