Erst als die Rocksängerin Beverly auftaucht, findet Howard Gefallen an den Menschen. Doch unter allen Umständen will er zurück in seine Entenwelt. Der Wissenschaftler Dr. Jenning, dessen missglücktes Experiment für Howards Erdenbesuch verantwortlich ist, soll ihn mit seiner Laserkanone dorthin zurückbefördern. Doch etwas geht schief. Statt in seinem Fernsehsessel zu landen, sieht Howard sich einem Monster gegenüber.

While the puppetry itself is surprisingly solid—Howard’s expressions and movements are well crafted—it’s nowhere near enough to carry a full‑blown action‑comedy. The visual effects feel second‑rate, the kind of work that might have been forgiven with a larger budget or a more cohesive vision, but here they only highlight the film’s uneven tone. The script and dialogue are clunky, often veering into awkward territory rather than genuine humour. Most uncomfortable of all is the attempted romantic tension between Howard and Beverly, which lands not as quirky or daring but simply creepy. Despite a few flashes of creativity, the film never finds its footing. Howard the Duck is an ambitious oddity that ultimately collapses under its own misguided choices.

But does it live rent-free in the minds of ‘80s babies and chaos gremlins like me? Hell yes. From the moment a feathered alien duck man gets yeeted through dimensions and lands in a hot mess of synths, soft rock, and softcore weirdness—you know you’re in for something unhinged. We’ve got Lea Thompson giving 110% for no reason. We’ve got duck boobies. We’ve got Jeffrey Jones before we knew he was ✨cursed✨. And we’ve got Howard—cocky, charming, and honestly the original isekai king. Get transported to another world? Check. Gain human companions? Check. Mild romantic tension with a human woman? Check. HOWARD WALKED SO KAZUMA COULD RUN 💨🧍♂️🦆 Watch it not because it’s “good,” but because it’s cinema chaos—and maybe, just maybe, if we all believe hard enough, we’ll get that Howard comeback we didn’t know we needed. 🌌
- Gianni Cavuoto27. September 2025This movie is unabashedly stuck in the 80s. The crimped hair, the horribly bad electronic music and the bad story line will keep it there forever. I do give the movie a lot of credit. They weren't afraid to spend a lot of money on special effects and gadgetry for sure. Most of it was pretty good for its time. Let's not compare 1986 F/X to 2025 its light-years away from that. Think Empire Stikes Back vs The Rise Of Skywalker. In the end the writing let the movie down for sure. Let's hope the Collector keeps Howard in his cage forever, could we live through another disaster like this.....the answer is yes we can. And goof on it just as much. 😀😀😀😀
- stuhannaford11. Juni 2025Little more than a collection of one liners and puns, all of which land about as well as you’d expect of a drunk uncle at a funeral. The ‘romantic’ scenes are two or three waddles past incredibly awkward. The comedy level is so slapstick and ridiculous, that it can only really operate at a child’s level, however, some of the themes and gags are at odds with that target audience, and so it just feels completely and utterly out of place. Best not to discuss the ‘action’ sequences. Just a very odd film. Cack quack.
