How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World Ratings & Reviews
- RyezooFebruary 14, 2025What a solid trilogy. Heartlfelt, humorous, and beautifully animated. I’m so glad this story and franchise exists. The ending is perfect. As a whole this is probably the weakest compared to the other two films. Still that’s not even a bad thing because all these movies are all excellent. Toothless is as adorable as ever and Hiccup is such a great character. The villain was good but since this was the end the stakes could of been a little higher. Still this is one of the best movies to come out so far in 2019.
- Davey’s Wonderful WorldJuly 24, 2025This is my favorite and the best of the how to train your Dragon franchise. The villain is the best in the series. The action is high energy and it really hits hard emotionally especially during the end it’s one of the most emotional conclusions I’ve ever experienced in any movie. It’s honestly almost perfect if not for Tuffnut and Snot Lout both of those characters are extremely annoying and unhelpful all just caring, just one joke over and over again, and just milking it to no ends But other than that, it’s amazing
- raphfire2012July 10, 2025Even though I’m sad that it was the last movie you could tell in the movie that we’re running out of ideas like the bad guy is a dragon Hunter exactly like the second movie but still good end to the trilogie
- Michael HeimgartnerJuly 6, 2025A Fitting, Emotional Finale Despite Some Familiar Flaws This final chapter is probably the "weakest" of the trilogy for me, but it still delivers a heartfelt and satisfying conclusion that makes the entire series feel complete. - The biggest issue here is the "villain of the week" problem. The antagonist feels underdeveloped, and the story doesn’t really bring anything new to the table plot-wise. - It’s a simpler narrative overall, lacking the bold progression and surprises that made the second film so impressive. But despite the predictable structure, The Hidden World offers an undeniably beautiful and emotional ending. - It knows it’s the final act and focuses on wrapping things up in a way that’s genuinely touching. - I’ll admit it had me tearing up by the end. - Even if the journey feels safer this time, the destination is exactly what it should be. One area where the film really shines is technically. - There’s a massive leap in animation quality, especially in the landscapes. - Textures are more detailed, lighting is richer, and some of the environments border on photorealistic. - It’s less cartoony than before, which actually suits the more mature tone of the ending. Of course, the film still has plenty of humor, action, and excitement. - It’s funny and thrilling without ever forgetting its emotional core. - The romance sequences between Toothless and the Light Fury do go on a bit too long for my taste—after a while it feels repetitive—but it’s a minor complaint in the grand scheme. What I also appreciate is that unlike many trilogies that try to go bigger and more epic in their finales, The Hidden World feels deliberately smaller and more personal. - It avoids the trap of "bigger is better" and instead focuses on character, relationships, and saying goodbye. - That choice makes it stand out and gives the conclusion a sense of quiet strength. In the end, even if it’s not quite on the same level as the first two, it’s still an excellent film in its own right. - All three movies maintain a remarkably high quality. - You can recommend any of them without hesitation. - The Hidden World may not be perfect, but it’s a beautiful, emotional, and fitting way to close out one of the best-animated trilogies in recent memory.
- Typical NerdJune 16, 2025Re-watched this again as it's been a while, visually impressive, with an incredible level of detail and passion that has been put into this film, from the lighting on the characters through the story telling bringing you into the story, it's unlike any other animated film I've watched and is absolutely a must watch. The passion put into this film is both obvious in some places, and more subtle when it comes to the smaller details that you'll only notice if your looking for them, it's just a level of detail that feels a lot greater than what most other studios seem to put into their own films. I remember being quite immersed into the film watching it in the cinema when it came out and loving every second of it.
