How to Train Your Dragon Ratings & Reviews
- jabadoo1d agoIf you’re nostalgic for Berk but skeptical of Hollywood’s relentless remake machine, this film is your cautious compromise. It didn’t revolutionize the story and that’s its point. It’s a love letter to empathy, a question about whether tradition is truth, and a meditation on how small gestures can change worlds. It rides the line between fandom and legacy, holding up the original’s heart in new, tangible frames. Look at How to Train Your Dragon not as a necessity, but as an invitation: to reflect on kindness in a battle-ready world, to wonder if peace is an invention of the brave or just of believing.
- brooksleerobertJune 6, 2025Don’t Evan need to watch I will love this movie no matter what
- JoelJune 11, 2025Listen, we all know live action remakes are completely useless and as a whole are very creatively bankrupt productions. But if you’re going to do it, this is how. You give people the same very good story they like and add in some very minor changes. I think bringing back DeBlois to direct was 100% the right move. I think this captures most of the charm and wonder of the original, the music is obviously just as amazing. I really like the new cast and their takes on the characters. CGI on the dragons was great, and a very solid looking film overall. I still think if you’re gonna do this, just re animate the films with a new art style or type of animation. But there’s really nothing bad about this remake.
- Typical NerdJune 17, 2025Outstanding Adaptation from the Animated film, no unnecessary filler or garbage added like what Disney does, it's just a 1:1 from the animated film, and it's been done really well and clearly with passion from the director and the rest of the production team behind it. This is one of the few films I think definitely deserves to have it's animated sequels given the same live action treatment as this is just amazing work. The transitions in IMAX are somewhat smoothed (slowly opening/closing) in and out for the aspect ratio, but some parts I would've thought would be in the IMAX aspect ratio weren't, but the shots that were in the IMAX aspect ratio definitely needed that to avoid cropping out toothless and huge chunks of the films detail. I really hope this gets a IMAX Home Release as that would put the cherry on top of what I think is just one of the best films I've seen in years.
- TonyFecteau1d agoIt is almost scene for scene like the animated version. I absolutely loved the animated one and loved this version too.
- gas station pump lighterJune 14, 2025i love it
- MikefIix2d agoThe movie was pretty well adapted. The cast was fine, the special effects were spot on. The only downside is that if you have watched the animated version before, it's pretty much the same thing. There's obviously a few mandatory black vikings, but I guess that if there are fantasy creatures like dragons in it, then there could be black vikings as well. So all in all good movie, but pretty much pointless, since the animated version looks just as good.
- bwiltse26202d agoSolid remake of the original. Same exact story, which isn't a bad thing.
- DustiestLizard2d agoPretty good movie, however my 7 year old is now demanding to ride a dragon and will not listen to reason.

- PhineasJuly 10, 2025When you barely change a masterpiece, the result is still going to be a masterpiece. Still felt the animated has more charm, but this is still a 8.5/10+ movie, the screenplay is just that good.
- Justin ThibodeauJune 22, 2025The best live action remake done to date of a masterpiece.
- Ary Mega2d agoGood movie, fun to watch with family. Stick closely with the cartoon version of HTTYD, maybe 99%.
- CONANrocks3d agoWas great to see a live action movie based on a cartoon that didn't make major changes to the story or characters. Sure, there were a few minor changes, but the heart, story, and depth were all there. Felt close enough to the original animated movie where I wasn't spending time thinking, "Why did they change that?" One of the best live-action remakes
- willyboy683d agoVery entertaining. Special effects were superb. Dragons looked as real as the people.
