- ርልዪረApril 17, 2025They just don't make movies like this any more. Yes, it's the nostalgia talking but this is still a children's classic. If they made this movie now in 2025 it'd be a garbage CG fest. I watched this so many times as a child I just simply couldn't get enough of this film. I even remember building my own shrink ray and nearly electrocuting myself before my dad stopped me sticking a wire in to a power socket. I think if this movie can have that kind of effect on me it must be good. Theres some great animation in this film, good special fx for the time, puppetry and scenery. The acting isn't bad either really for a kids film and there are some pretty emotional scenes too which are surprising. Definitely check it out.
- RichyEOctober 19, 2025This was peak 80's family adventure, Rick Moranis as Wayne Szalinski, the lovable nerd who accidentally turns his backyard into a survival zone by shrinking his kids (and the neighbors’). Suddenly, ants are allies, Cheerios are trampolines and sprinklers are death traps. I saw it on the big scree and laughed, and cheered like we were all two inches tall. The practical effects were pure magic: oversized props, puppetry and camera tricks that made every blade of grass feel like a jungle. It was the kind of movie that made you want to build your own shrink ray and maybe electrocute yourself trying (don’t ask). Then in 2005, I got shrunk again, this time at Honey, I Shrunk the Audience! in Disneyland. It was a 4D fever dream: seats shaking, mice scurrying underfoot (or so it felt) and Wayne’s latest invention going haywire in glorious theme park chaos. The crowd screamed, laughed and ducked for cover as the shrink ray “hit” us all. It was immersive, ridiculous and absolutely unforgettable. Honey, I Shrunk the Kids isn’t just a movie, it’s a full body memory. I saw it in the cinema, got shrunk in Disneyland and now it lives in my Plex library, filed under “80's magic and theme park trauma.”
- tellumAugust 19, 2025A near perfect kids movie that still has rewatch value for adults. It also exposes the terror that lies beneath our lawn, creeping behind our houses while we sleep.
