- RyezooFebruary 4, 2025Glen Powell is really growing on me! This is one of the horniest films I’ve seen in a while. Laughed a bunch and found the rabbit hole it went down to be a ton of fun. My one nitpick is the third act only happens because Gary makes a distinctive choice with so called husband. Still I too might have done some crime for that woman!
- Ray HopkinJanuary 1, 2025A really fun, zippy, movie. The chemistry between the leads was so hot! I really enjoyed this, but I want to know what happened to his cats at the end?
- vangh1December 22, 2024I rented this for free with a rental code I was given from a combo I got while going to Twisters so it's the completion of a Glen Powell combo, and It. Was. Glorious. Im a big fan of Linklater. I'm a rapidly growing fan of GP. I'm insanely tantalized by the thesis that hitmen only exist in fiction and police exploit that myth for sting operations. This is like, pretty good and steadily enjoyable, and then becomes unreal good at the end. It takes three things to kill a man: 1) The gun 2) The bullets 3) The balls And I've got a massive stockpile of all 3! *Nut shot*
- rg9400November 1, 2024Hit Man is not what I expected, in the best way possible. It's easy to think that it will similar to Netflix original movies, a generic action thriller starring an attractive lead male star. However, it's actually a film festival darling by Richard Linklater that got purchased by Netflix and got resigned to a straight-to-streaming release. Instead, it's this sort of screwball comedy-romance of things spiraling out of control. The quirky humor is pretty great (love the dedication at the end), and Adria Arjona and Glen Powell are charismatic, sexy, and have tons of chemistry. Their interactions carry the movie. I also loved all of the different disguises that are featured throughout the movie. In some ways, this is the movie I wanted Fall Guy to be, where the leads actually have chemistry, there is real sexual tension, and the humor lands. The ending felt a bit anticlimactic, but I enjoyed the rest to overlook it. Don't go into it expecting action and you will be rewarded.
- VarunOctober 19, 2024I don’t watch a lot of romcoms but this is the best I’ve ever seen. Glen Powell is absolutely brilliant in this, flexing his full range of acting skills and probably giving the best performance of his career. It reminded me of James McAvoy’s performance in Split (2016), however here there were even more roles and each one is played to perfection. The plot was really smart and unique. The movie was entertaining throughout while exploring many themes like the murky ethics of entrapment, how easily a person’s actions could be nudged in different directions, the fascination of doing field work as a psychologist and all the surprising challenges it brings to mere theory, the enticing quest for love amidst danger, the choice we sometimes have to fashion a persona in some areas of our life while in others we are completely slave to our brain patterns and emotions, how we are entrenched in viewing others through our narrow lens and our biases making us suspect to exploitation, etc. The pacing, comedy, dialogue, sensual romance and suspense were all tuned perfectly. I had so much fun with this film and I highly recommend everyone to check it out!
- The Gutter MonkeyOctober 16, 2024Similar in tone to Linklater's earlier dark, crime comedy, Bernie (which was also inspired by a true story). Due to a lackluster final act, though, it winds up being a tad less memorable than that should-be-classic.
