This is definitely a Top 5 movie for me, and has been since the height of my John Cusack obsession (ca. 2005) when I dug it out of a DVD discount bin at Circuit City. Anyway, I would categorize this as a perfect film. It’s rare for a movie to match the source material (by Nick Hornby) so closely, even with the bold change of setting from London to Chicago - which I personally love as a Midwest guy The character of Rob Gordon is moody and self-absorbed, but soooo relatable and redeemable. This film does “breaking the fourth wall” very well. I have to mention the absolutely stacked cast - Jack Black, Lisa Bonet, Tim Robbins, to name a few. What else? oh I don’t know, maybe it’s the second most quotable movie after Hook??
