Most of the film is built around two long, previously unseen interviews with Herbie Hancock, recorded at his home and studio in Los Angeles. Herbie talks about his studies in electrical engineering and music at Grinnell College in Iowa. He also recounts his early days alongside Donald Byrd and Pepper Adams, while continuing to attend classes at Roosevelt University.
