- MaxNovember 7, 2025A well-made origin story that shows how Hannibal became the person we know. It’s a film that also reminds you how fortunate we are to live in modern times rather than during the horrors of World War II. Gaspard Ulliel does a good job portraying the young Hannibal — he’s convincing and intense, though the shoes of Anthony Hopkins are definitely hard to fill, and you can feel that at certain moments. Still, there are glimpses of that same cold, calculating nature we associate with Hopkins’ version. The movie dives deeper into Hannibal’s darker side and reveals where his monstrous tendencies truly come from. Overall, a strong addition to the original series and a fascinating look at the making of a monster.
