Directed by Matthew Festle, Matt LealMichael and Darren have a very successful true crime podcast. But when trying to get one of their biggest guests yet turns into a bizarre obsession for Michael, the lines between nightmare and reality begin to blur.
- Kevin WardJuly 12, 2025Two true crime podcasters Michael and Darren see their podcast on the rise but the added pressure of their burgeoning success puts the two creators friendship at odds when faced with differing visions for the future of their podcast. Impressive production given the indy budget and being produced during the pandemic. While it utilized a fair amount of zoom as is typical of similar films produced during this period, Hacked doesn’t feel nearly as confined in that regard thanks to a variety of drone shots, establishing shots, interiors, etc. The character work between Michael and Darren works exceedingly well even though it’s pretty clear there’s going to be some kind of downward spiral or a major rift between the two. It’s got a fun final act. Who doesn’t love a good descent into madness? Well done
