Reformed outlaw Frank James is living quietly in Greede, Colorado as a respected member of the community. A former member of the old James gang, who has teamed up with Charlie and Bob Ford tries to talk him back into the gang, but Frank declines. After Sheriff John Kelly kills Bob, Charlie joins up with a gang led by Bat Fenton, who is an exact double for Frank, and they begin a siege of lawlessness that Frank is blamed for.
