Heinrich Lutter (Götz George) is an unemployed locksmith. He lives with his two sons Mike (Markus Knüfken) and Günni (Bastian Trost) in Cologne, Ehrendfeld - a worker's district. Both need his unrestricted attention: Mike has a police record and Günni is mentally handicapped from birth. His only stability is his camper - for him it is a symbol of liberty and a fulfilled life in Italy. But his dream "on four wheels" is confiscated by public authority.
