Gods and Generals Ratings & Reviews
- Mister Arn2d ago“Gods and Generals” tries to cover too much and ends up incomplete. The scope is so broad that key people and ideas are either rushed or left thin. That’s why it feels tilted toward the Confederates. The film gives real time to Jackson, his beliefs, and his death, while the Union side is mostly sketched in. Scenes like the tea or lemonade moments build Jackson well, but that focus isn’t shared elsewhere. The film aims at the full weight of the Civil War, but leaves too many threads hanging. It feels long, not because it’s deep, but because it’s unfocused. It wants to be about the war, but it’s really about Jackson.
