Ghostbusters: Answer the Call takes a beloved classic and replaces what made the original so special with an over-the-top, painfully forced comedy that rarely captures the charm, chemistry, or wit of the original films. The humor is hit-or-miss at best, the characters are exaggerated rather than genuinely entertaining, and the story feels like a recycled concept that nobody was particularly asking for. The biggest problem is that the movie never manages to justify its own existence. Instead of building on the legacy of Ghostbusters, it feels like a complete reset designed to capitalize on a recognizable name. The result is loud, predictable, and far more interested in making a statement than delivering a genuinely entertaining Ghostbusters movie. There’s nothing wrong with making a Ghostbusters movie with a female cast. The problem is that changing the gender of the characters doesn’t automatically make a bad script good. When the writing, jokes, story, and character chemistry don’t work, the movie still doesn’t work. The original Ghostbusters had personality, clever humor, memorable characters, and an atmosphere that made it feel unique. Answer the Call feels like a studio trying to recreate that magic by checking boxes instead of understanding why audiences loved the original in the first place. Even with a talented cast, the movie feels forced from beginning to end. It’s a forgettable reboot of a franchise that never needed to be rebooted in the first place. A completely unnecessary movie that failed to capture what made Ghostbusters great. ½/5 stars.
- PredatorRangerMay 23, 2026I hated this movie when I first saw it. I just wanted more of the Ghostbusters I grew up with! Watched it again tonight for my wife - she loved it. It's her new favorite Ghostbusters movie. It's fifth in line for me - not great, but I no longer despise it's existence.

The plot is thin and forgettable, but I’ll give credit where it’s due: the CGI is actually pretty solid. Overall, it’s a frustrating mix of wasted potential and style over substance

But instead of honoring the legacy, it felt like someone crossed the streams of bad improv and studio panic. Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, talented cast, wasted on a script that forgot how to be funny or spooky. The ghosts looked like neon leftovers from a theme park ride and the villain? Forgettable. Even Chris Hemsworth couldn’t save it with his airhead receptionist routine. The pacing was off, the jokes landed with a thud and the cameos felt like contractual obligations. They should’ve been put in the ghost trap for making this.
- tellumMay 29, 2025In the original Ghostbusters the characters are pretty dysfunctional despite being pseudo geniuses, but in this movie the women are not portrayed as genius and are just dysfunctional idiots. Baffling why the script was determined to undermine the actresses for almost the full length of the movie, to the point that the one scene where they get their acts together and display some competency it’s a breath of fresh air. Too bad the rest of the movie makes you choke on unfunny stupidity.
