Four Mothers Ratings & Reviews
- Mister Aitch11 juli 2025Simple story, very amusing at time S and rather sweet.
- Kevin Ward30 juni 2025Four Mothers has a rather absurd setup: a gay Irish novelist gets guilted into looking after not just his own aging mother, but three of his friends’ mothers too, while his friends party in the Canaries for Pride. If that sounds like a sitcom plot—well, it is. But it’s also weirdly moving, quietly perceptive, and frequently hilarious. Fionnula Flanagan absolutely owns every scene, speaking only through a flat, robotic iPad voice that delivers lines with the emotional tone of a GPS. The dissonance between her expressive, wounded face and the deadpan delivery is pure comedy gold. Director Darren Thornton goes back to that well often—and it works every single time. The séance subplot? Genuinely touching. The dynamic between the four elderly? Chaotic in the best way. And James McArdle’s Edward? Perfectly exasperated. It’s a film about caregiving, generational disconnects, and losing your voice (literally and figuratively), but also about how love can be awkward and inconvenient and still feel totally worth it. An unexpected delight and a great way to kick off Seattle International Film Festival 2025.
