A Tunisian mother of four daughters whose two eldest have fled their home and been radicalized by ISIS, is left to cope with their loss along with her two remaining daughters. Utilizing actors to play the missing daughters (and the mother at times when the emotion is too much to bear), as in a family therapy role play session, they work through the traumas of their past and how they got here. Anger, regret, sadness…so much boils over here as the mother comes to grips with the fact that some of the things that she did to protect her daughters, were the very things that drove them to radicalization. You get the impression there’s turmoil with regard to how remaining daughters feel about their, mom, their departed sisters and each other. It’s a challenging, experimental and ultimately messy viewing experience, but at the same time it certainly shines a light into a world that I really have no experience. Worthwhile watch.
