- Manuel FrangisMarch 23, 2025I just watched Flubber again and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. This movie is pure nostalgic fun and still holds up as one of the most entertaining family comedies from the 90s. It is weird, goofy, full of energy, and packed with that classic Robin Williams charm that never gets old. The story follows Professor Philip Brainard, a quirky scientist who is so obsessed with his experiments that he keeps forgetting his own wedding. During one of his wild projects, he ends up creating a living green substance called Flubber that has a mind of its own and insane bouncing energy. From there, things spiral into total chaos in the best way. Robin Williams is absolutely perfect in this role. He brings so much energy, humor, and heart to the character that you cannot help but root for him. His physical comedy is top tier, and every scene he is in is just fun to watch. Whether he is getting launched across the room or trying to communicate with Flubber, he completely owns the movie. Flubber itself is hilarious. The little green blob bounces around, dances, causes chaos, and somehow manages to be adorable and wild at the same time. It is such a strange idea for a movie but it totally works. The way they animate it to interact with the world makes the movie feel alive and fun from start to finish. The humor is great for both kids and adults. There is a lot of slapstick, some clever jokes, and a bunch of silly chaos that keeps things exciting. Robin Williams’ timing makes the jokes hit even harder and his reactions to everything going wrong are priceless. The movie never takes itself seriously and that is what makes it work. The pacing is really solid too. The movie jumps right into the fun and never slows down. There is always something new going on, whether it is Flubber bouncing around the house or Brainard trying to fix his mistakes. It keeps the energy high the whole way through. The supporting cast is also strong. Marcia Gay Harden plays Sara, the woman Brainard keeps forgetting to marry, and she brings a nice mix of patience and frustration to the role. Christopher McDonald plays a great over the top villain who is constantly trying to steal Brainard’s invention, and his character fits right into the chaos. Even the robot assistant, Weebo, adds a lot of heart and fun to the story. The special effects, especially for the time, are actually really impressive. Flubber looks and moves in a way that feels real even though it is this totally unrealistic substance. The flying car, the bouncing shoes, and all the other inventions give the movie a cool sci fi vibe while keeping it fun and light. The reason I give it 5 out of 5 stars is not because it is perfect, but because of how much fun it is to watch. It is funny, fast, creative, and full of heart. Robin Williams brings so much personality to it and the whole movie feels like one big cartoon brought to life. Overall Flubber is a classic family comedy that is still just as entertaining now as it was when it came out. It is goofy and wild but it has charm and heart too. I loved it as a kid and I still love it now. Definitely a movie I will keep rewatching.
- 匚卂尺ㄥJuly 6, 2025A gem of a film. Still glad to have it on cassete, and I'll never forget watching it when I was younger as a kid during my childhood. Extremely underrated this film was, and extraordinary especially with the effects they had. When it was released there was almost nothing like it, as not many films were able to have this style, and effects as the technology like CGI didn't exist yet, and this film accomplished so much for it's time. Top tier actors, characters, animations, storyline, soundtrack and honestly to me it was perfect. A true classic, worth watching. I'll never forget this film, and it's sad seeing the actors, and creators who made this possible, go, but it is what it is. Legend of a film. They don't make these anymore, but what a time it was.
