Also, I would not have expected to have watched this many gay romcoms in a single year, so that’s some promising progress for representation in cinema. Romcoms are not my favorite genre mostly because they have a tendency to be very formulaic. But even though this is another adaptation of a classic story, the LGBTQ+ angle and diverse casting injects a fair amount of freshness into Fire Island. Bowen Yang and Joel Kim Booster both give solid lead performances handling the humor and the drama really effectively. Well worth checking out.
