Escape from New York Ratings & Reviews
- Ron KloseMarch 19, 2026It an old style action movie classic.
- ProkhorFebruary 28, 2026No dicks at all. A single instance of naked female presenting breasts.
- markeh4February 19, 2026Old but goody
- Richard Scott LongFebruary 13, 2026Not a bad movie... edge of your seat entertainment. 😄
- cook91February 22, 2025Hardly any dialog. Good movie to watch.
- ZokkiieDecember 29, 2025Kurt Russell is pure cool as Snake, trying to survive a totally messed-up Manhattan turned prison. The action’s tense, the vibe is gritty and fun, and yeah, some of the effects are a bit old-school—but that just adds to the charm. Totally worth a watch.
- JakeysDecember 28, 2025Often considered one of Carpenter's best, but as much as I love him and Kurt Russell, it somehow manages to be boring? I really wanted to like it more, Snake Plissken is such a cool character, the concept and the world are also promising, but it just doesn't deliver on it enough.
- flavo43December 10, 2025Escape from New York (1981) is a gritty, inventive sci-fi action film that transcends its B-movie roots to become a genre classic. Directed by John Carpenter, it presents a dystopian vision of Manhattan transformed into a maximum-security prison, with Kurt Russell’s Snake Plissken sent in to rescue the President. The plot is tight, the pacing relentless, and the atmosphere dripping with tension and style. Carpenter’s use of practical effects and moody synth score creates a world that feels both grim and believable, despite budget limitations. The characters are memorable, from Plissken’s anti-hero charisma to the eccentric figures inhabiting the ruined city. Russell’s performance cemented Snake as one of the most iconic sci-fi action stars, his mythos enduring long after the film’s release. Escape from New York is proof that creativity and attitude can elevate a modest production into a timeless cult masterpiece.
- jaymz442July 27, 2025Good movie
- Frank AzzopardiNovember 5, 2025Snake Plissken! What a character!!
- andy bOctober 30, 20253/5 or like id say 70% idk. fun movie - carpenter and KR match made in heaven. fun light action and good for a halloween/spooky movie vibe that's light and entertaining enough to get you reinstalling MGS or deus ex for the 20th time
- myk34September 10, 2025Whilst a little dated, it's a classic nonetheless
- thekingnootApril 15, 2025Sci-fi classic!
- RichardAugust 31, 2025It’s always a shame that when John Carpenter makes a movie, it rarely gets the recognition it deserves right away. His films are slow burns and misunderstood at first, then rediscovered and rewatched. Escape from New York is no exception. The atmosphere, the synth score, the bleak satire all adds up to a film that’s now considered a cult classic. Escape from New York is gritty, stylish, and unapologetically strange. It’s a film that dared to be different and like so many of Carpenter’s works, it found its audience not in the moment, but in the years that followed. I loved it when I saw it for the first time and still do, a true cult gem.
- Janet StephensAugust 16, 2025Buffering where the movie was concerned is good. However, the ads keep freezing and that's not cool at all. I suggest that y'all get that BS fixed. Otherwise watching the movie was good.
