Hong Kong cinema has always earned high marks from me for its willingness to blend genres—horror, drama, absurdist comedy—into bold, risky creations that mainstream studios elsewhere wouldn’t touch. Electrical Girl fits that tradition perfectly. It’s wacky, weird, and unapologetically absurd, delivering scenes that make you wonder whether to laugh, cringe, or simply stare in disbelief. I’m not entirely convinced it’s consistently funny, but it definitely has its moments—little bursts of charm or cleverness that break through the chaos. The film’s uniqueness is both its strength and its weakness: you won’t forget it, but you may not quite know how to feel about it afterward. Still, for sheer audacity alone, it’s an interesting curiosity worth experiencing once.
