Don't Hang Up Ratings & Reviews
- Big Hulky14 oktober 2025Dont Hang Up, But Call Ghostbusters { Spoilers Below } Notable things I disliked: 1) There's a scene where Summer gets out of the shower and lays down on her bed, and you see a film crew member's shadow casted on the bed as they walk past the nearby lamp to turn off the light in the bedroom like the power is out. It can't be said it's a "ghost's" shadow. It's just something that shouldn't be in the film if new takes were possible. This to me shows they were fine with a mediocre take, which clearly shows with some of the decisions as the film goes on. 1.1) A few other scenes, Summer is walking "fast" then decreases to a crawl to allow for one of the crew to do something up ahead, or maybe it's just their way of pacing the movie for maximum spooks. It just throws off the feel. She's walking around1.5-2mph, then goes down to 0.2mph, creeping around a corner for 5+ seconds. It feels very off. 2) Some of the effects aren't good. There's two notable ones I can think of, which are a girl crawling on a ceiling in a bedroom, and that same girl's face appearing out of the darkness from the ceiling as a jump scare. They're passable in comparison to the worst effects out there, but I thought they'd be better. Additionally, during the scene where the girl's face is appearing from the ceiling, Summer says "Oh, my God. Oh, my God! Go!" all while standing directly under the face, and staring at it, not moving. 3) The character choices were blowing my mind. This movie could have been completely prevented if Vicky was not involved. Her actress played her well, because I was hoping at any and every moment that The Slime from Ghostbuster's came out and devoured her. I have an issue with each character, though: Summer: When Vicky gets snatched by the ghost, Summer stands there doing absolutely nothing, waiting patiently while she's dragged into bedroom. Then, only after the ghost slams and locks Vicky's door behind them, Summer decides now is the time to run after her and try to save her, not the 8 seconds of her getting picked up and slowly dragged away. Shortly after, Summer stops trying to get in the door because it's locked, and goes to the stairs to find Eva. She does not come back for Vicky for 8 minutes. The reason this throws me off so much, is that Summer tries to be a hero in this movie, saving Eva, trying to save Justice's family even though she knows nothing about them and they're actively haunting her. Eva: I have no clue why she's being "possessed" so much. It may be due to her being weak minded to this spiritual stuff, but it's not explained if that's the case (that I can recall). She gets "possessed" 3 times in the film. The fourth time we see it is at the end of the movie where Justice is returned to his family, the ghosts, and all is well. The ghosts allow them to leave, everything is fine. The movie ends with the three girls in the SUV leaving, and Eva's eyes turn black to show she's still possessed. A sloppy ending that leaves you wondering why she's still possessed, and then has you realizing you don't care, and closing the movie out. Vicky: I do not like this woman. She's rude, and has an antagonistic personality, making an awkward interaction between Summer and Chris within 15 seconds of him joining their video call. The girls were discussing the friend's wedding they were attending in the beginning of the film, and Vicky asks Chris when he's going to pop the question. This makes everyone but Vicky uncomfortable, so Summer say some filler BS like "We have tons of time to decide.", even though you can tell she was waiting for Chris's answer. That right there being a clear sign to stop and change the topic, Vicky decides to keep pressing, recalling that Summer always talked about marriage in high school. Summer says "Things change.", and clearly wants it to end there. Vicky CONTINUES pressing her, saying it makes sense, but she was so in love with the idea of being married, that it seems odd for things to change. Chris chimes in saying "We're just prioritizing school and shit first." Vicky, being the douche that she is, follows up with a kill shot, "Right... someone fuck someone else?" After seeing everyone not take that lightly, she claims she was "Just fucking with you." and "Just screwing with you." The reason this is worse that it already seems is due to an implied incident with Chris that isn't shown or talked about in the film. He asks Summer things like "Are we okay?", and her to him, "We're figuring this out, right?", so my assumption is he cheated or tried killing himself. I assume he cheated. A few final things I want to touch up on. How did Eva get home from the hospital? No one gave the EMT's their phone number for contact information if anything happens to Eva? Eva doesn't have Summer as one of her emergency contacts? Eva just leaves the hospital and appears back at the house like nothing ever happened. Eva got slingshot across the main staircase into the wall at 25mph, and Summer thinks "She threw herself into the wall." She finds Eva drowning herself and continues as normal after calling the EMT's. This all happens after Chris tells her the house she's in is haunted. I get not believing that at first or even when Eva tries drowning herself, but launching 12ft+ off a staircase at impossible speeds calls for a hotel booking and an exorcism. Last thing I want to say is the ending felt rushed. It just happened, really. Justice met his family after Vicky and Summer talked with the landlord, Justice's son. You see no more ghosts, no nothing. The girls just pack their stuff and leave.
