Despite Emily Blunt’s best effort Disclosure Day is a wholly forgettable affair. Unjustifiably long runtime, meandering plot and flat performances (aside from Blunt) make this an easy skip. Even in IMAX this was a big miss and I don’t really understand how it justifies the medium. Would not recommend.

Disclosure Day is one of those films that arrives carrying decades of expectations on its shoulders. Ever since Close Encounters of the Third Kind, audiences have imagined the ultimate disclosure story the moment when all the mysteries are finally laid bare. This movie had the promise and potential to be that film. At its best, it delivers a handful of genuinely iconic moments that capture the awe, wonder, and existential excitement such a premise deserves. Unfortunately, it never fully commits to its own strengths. Just when the story begins to build momentum toward something profound, it gets distracted by uneven storytelling choices and surprisingly weak CGI that often undermines the scale of what should feel monumental. There are scenes that inspire genuine excitement, only to be followed by moments so exaggerated or self aware that the film begins to feel like a caricature of itself. What makes the disappointment more noticeable is that the foundation is clearly there. You can see the better movie hidden beneath the surface a film that could have become a defining entry in the UFO and disclosure genre. Instead, Disclosure Day settles for flashes of greatness rather than embracing its full potential. It’s far from a bad movie. In fact, its most memorable scenes may stay with viewers long after the credits roll. But for a film built around the biggest revelation imaginable, it ultimately misses the opportunity to deliver the definitive experience many of us have been waiting for.
