Destroyer
Directed by Karyn KusamaDestroyer follows the moral and existential odyssey of LAPD detective Erin Bell who, as a young cop, was placed undercover with a gang in the California desert with tragic results. When the leader of that gang re-emerges many years later, she must work her way back through the remaining members and into her own history with them to finally reckon with the demons that destroyed her past.

- angelm30December 6, 2024A gut punch of a role for Nicole Kidman who, in spite of some facial prosthetics, goes all in on a character who is messy and complicated. Not a traditional “rooting for the underdog” protagonist, but a hard boiled cynic who’s trying to fix the damage she caused both in her career and with her daughter. It’s part character study and an undercover cop drama. Not to mention a transformative performance by Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) who is at the top of her game. For whatever it’s flaws are, this is one movie I cannot recommend highly enough.
