The secret of his introversion is soon revealed: The single architect mourns the loss of his little son, who was run over by an unknown two years ago. The police are still looking for the fugitive death driver. Contrary to her beliefs, Maria falls in love with the attractive Holger and soon introduces him to her son and his friend Melanie. Holger and Niklas get along great from the start. The new love happiness seems perfect until Holger and Maria want to attend the big final concert at Niklas' college - only to find out that Niklas had already given up his studies two years ago. When the horrified Maria is researching reasons for dropping out of studies and her son's big lie, she learns from Melanie that Niklas had a car accident shortly before his incomprehensible decision. A terrible suspicion creeps up on Maria, which is reinforced by a series of clues.
