The prison Aichach has 155 male and 490 female inmates and is the largest women's prison in Germany. Of the 94 national mother-child places, 10 are here. At present 10 pregnant prisoners are in custody (in April 2006). A further 6 mother-child places will be created in 2007 in the open prison in Aichach. As a rule the children shouldn't stay in the institution longer than their 3rd year of life.
