- David D Davidson16. august 2026Probably in the top 3 for most visually stunning Ghibli movies, CitS is an example of the studio firing on all cylinders, with a story that feels earned and lived in (nothing mold-breaking but who’s ever expected that from Ghibli?) characters with a serviceable array of personal motivations, and a dazzling aesthetic that treats the eyes and the heart. This one definitely makes the short list for the studios releases and is one I’ll watch again and again on quiet Sunday afternoons with the doors and windows wide open and the fresh air and sunlight streaming in. Like a lot of Ghibli releases, the art does most of the heavy lifting, but I think this one avoids feeling overly paint by numbers
- Cubane26. mai 2026This is one of the first Ghibli movies with stunning artwork paired to a tropey predictable story, but it would not be the last. The only character with any real development is Dola, the rest are so thin they may as well not even have names. It's a little sad for me to say this is the first Ghibli movie I've watched that was so trite it was actually difficult for me to finish it. Rest assured you've seen this story in other hats many times before.

- LivewireAdmin6. august 2025First Miyazaki film I haven't seen as I work my way through Studio Ghibli's catalogue. I wonder if they were going to keep the "princess story" going for as long as they could? I enjoyed the story in this one and the setting but it never quite reached the highs of Nausicaa or Totoro. By the way, I'm watching all of these dubbed if I can and I feel like the leads here weren't the best (Anna Paquin and James Van Der Beak). That being said, Mark Hamill is the villain and he did a terrific job (he even broke out the joker laugh a few times). If I ever do watch this one again, I'm sure it will be some time before I come back to it. In terms of the positives, the animation again was wonderful and Hisaishi knocks the score out of the park once more.

A young boy stumbles into a mysterious girl who floats down from the sky. The girl, Sheeta, was chased by pirates, army and government secret agents.
