- MrTrivetJanuary 28, 2026Captain Underpants initially seemed like a film I could easily connect with - the story of two kids passionate about comics sounded like a natural point of engagement for me. Unfortunately, it quickly becomes clear that the entire narrative relies almost exclusively on bathroom humor. Themes involving pee, poop, and all their variations are exploited so heavily that within minutes they lose any comedic freshness and start to feel tiresome. It’s a shame, because the film has moments of visual creativity - the animation style pleasantly echoes the aesthetics of comic strips, occasionally evoking associations with Dilbert, giving the whole a slightly satirical edge. The movie will undoubtedly find its fans among younger boys, for whom crude bodily humor represents the height of comedy. Other viewers, as the story progresses, are more likely to glance at the clock increasingly often, feeling a growing sense of monotony.
