Canyon Passage Ratings & Reviews
Mister Arn

“Canyon Passage” is a Technicolor Western set against the rugged backdrop of frontier Oregon. It explores themes of ambition, loyalty, and moral struggle. The film paints human nature in broad strokes. Its villains are oily, and its hero is stoic and stiff. Plenty of melodrama beneath the frontier grit makes it feel more like a soap opera in spurs than a traditional Western.
Film Frenzy
Matt Brunson
A sturdy Western in which, for once, the story is more sprawling than the scenery.
The New Yorker
Richard Brody
Avoiding history and politics, Tourneur serves up, in a dreamlike Technicolor glow, a pastoral film noir.
EmanuelLevy.Com
Emanuel Levy
Lavishly mounted Western by Jacques Tourneur, better known for his noir films
Turner Classic Movies Online
Sean Axmaker
... a remarkably dense drama where the tensions between individual enterprise and communal good are often strained and the line between hero and villain... gray.
CinePassion
Fernando F. Croce
Jacques Tourneur at work in color on Western landscapes is something to behold
Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews
Dennis Schwartz
One of those great Westerns, equal to John Ford's top work, that has somehow been undeservedly ignored.
